My name is Zayd John-Charles Salahieh, and from the day I was born, I had an insatiable curiosity about the world around me. I would take apart TV remotes and put them back together to understand how they worked; I would buy Lego sets with my allowance money and ignore the instructions, building whatever came to mind at that moment, and I would ask question after question to my mom and dad about any and everything until they got annoyed beyond belief.
I consistently find different outlets for my curiosity, taking the lessons I learn from seemingly unrelated interests and applying them to help me better understand the world around me. Baseball, cross country, Pokémon cards, Legos, thrift shopping, vinyl records, and now, marketing. To me, they're all connected.

Without my family, I wouldn't be anywhere. Growing up in a cross-cultural family, with my mother's side being Korean and my dad's side being Syrian, taught me the value that comes with a collectivistic culture and an individualistic culture.
My friends keep me in check. When I'm becoming complacent and getting too comfortable, they always push me beyond what I thought possible. If it wasn't for my friends guiding me, giving me perspective of myself, and motivating me, I don't quite know where I would be.
Nearly 5 years and counting! I met Nataly during our freshman year of high school, and she's been my ride-or-die since. She's my best friend, my girlfriend, and my everything. We literally do everything together.
Traveling and experiencing other cultures is my favorite thing in the world. It’s the cultural habits, actions, rituals, traditions, and so much more that make each destination unique. Culture involves all of the senses; it intoxicates the soul. It is something that cannot be described, something that can only be experienced.
Nature is where I find peace and clarity, away from the noise of everyday life. The rustling of leaves, the rhythm of ocean waves, and the scent of fresh earth remind me that I am part of something much bigger than myself. Nature teaches me patience, resilience, and the beauty of imperfection. It is a sanctuary where I can breathe deeply, reflect, and reconnect with what truly matters.
Education isn't just about acquiring knowledge but about expanding perspectives, challenging assumptions, and fostering curiosity. It opens doors to new ideas, helping me understand the world and our place within it. Education empowers me to think critically, to question, to dream, and to create. It’s a lifelong journey that nurtures not only the mind but also the spirit, shaping who we are and who we can become.
